Wudang five animal dynamic qigong

A weekly series of five workshops

Practice with us for 5 weeks and learn the basics of Wudang Five Animal Dynamic Qigong!

The five animals (crane, turtle, dragon, snake and tiger) represent different qualities of movement, develop different skills and have different beneficial effects on the body. In each of the five sessions, I will try to give you the essence of each animal's practice through a movement. The exercises are more dynamic than Tai Chi, but also a little more challenging for beginners, so it is an advantage if you already practice some (any) form of movement, but not a prerequisite, complete beginners are welcome a well.

The sessions from 29 September to 27 October are strung together in an arc, but it is also possible to join each session separately. You can read about the themes of each session below.

Every Monday

17:30-19:00
House of the Rising Sun
(at Blaha Lujza Square, Rákóczi út 36.)
Instructor: Márton Mucsi, group instructor at the Xuan Gongfu Academy in Berlin

Every Monday

01.
29 September.
17:30-19:00

Crane qigong

Yang

Fire element, heart, balance, elegance

The crane develops stability through deep stances and a sense of balance through single-leg stances. Yet the essence of the movement is the opening and closing of the chest, which connects the crane to the heart and the element of fire. Beside the alternation of fast and slow motions, the quality of the crane is the elegance of movement.

Every Monday

02.
6 October.
17:30-19:00

Turtle qigong

yin

Water element, kidney, structure and twisting spine, stability

The turtle's movements are slow and careful, and the structure created in the body will be as stable as the turtle's shell, but will also remain relaxed. The gentle, twisting movements help to move the spine and massage the muscles and connective tissues along the spine, especially in the back and waist.

Every Monday

03.
13 October.
17:30-19:00

Dragon qigong

Half Yang

Wood element, liver, spiral flow, freedom

The dragon is an exercise in freedom and spiral movements. The movement is continuous, spiralling and extremely dynamic, not only moving through the whole body, but filling the space around itself as it moves through space. Through the movement of the arms, it stretches the muscles and tendons in the upper body and shoulders. In addition to the upward flow, maintaining contact with the ground helps the practitioner to create stability.

Every Monday

04.
20 October.
17:30-19:00

Snake qigong

Half Yin

Metal element, lungs, softness, elasticity, flexibility of movement

The movement of the snake is also flowing and continuous, but it exudes calmness, softness and attention. The key to movement is the looseness of the chest and shoulders, and by developing these, snake exercise improves the connectivity of the whole body. The movement is linked to the lungs and the metal element, so behind the flexibility and softness lies the potential for sudden, rapid exertion of force.

Every Monday

05.
27 October.
17:30-19:00

Tiger qigong

The Centre

Earth element, digestion, explosive movement, pressing

The tiger's movement is best characterised by its explosive power (Fa Li). Its movements are both fast and powerful, yet soft at the same time. It can cover large distances in space in a single movement. And it retains its softness through the loose, wave-like movement of the spine, which also gives a pleasant massage to the abdominal area, thus linking it to digestion and the earth element.
